Contour/Highlight

How to apply it to YOUR face shape

The perfect contour/ highlight makes everyone look amazing, but how do you know if you are doing it right? I know you have probably watched tutorials of all kinds of influencers putting makeup on themselves and telling you what products to use, but if YOUR face shape or tones aren’t the same as theirs then you won’t look the same.

Do You know what your face shape is?

Take a look in the mirror at your face, before you put on any makeup. Look at your jaw line and the sides of your face. Which image do these areas most identify with? Having a strong flat looking jawline will usually indicate you have more of a square shape, while a pointed chin will likely be a diamond, heart or triangle shape. If you feel like your face shape is more elongated you will probably fall under the oval shape.

Where should you apply contour/ highlight powders?

When you look at your face, with or without makeup on, what areas do you want to appear smaller/slimmer? These are the areas you will want to apply the contour powders to. How you apply them will determine the areas that “sink” in and the ones that protrude out. Putting a highlight powder without any shimmer in it will help other areas stand out more.

Check out this contour/ highlight chart below to determine where you would like to apply your powders based on your face shape.

PRO TIP:

Keep in mind that just because the chart above says you should but a powder in a certain areas does not mean you have to. If you like your current nose or chin shape just leave it as is!

MY favorite products

I always love to use longwear products, because who really wants to be touching up their makeup all day long? Not me!

Shopping for bronzing and highlighting products is very similar to foundations. If you need a warmer tone or a cooler tone then that will be the same guidelines for your powders. Not everyone uses powders, some people prefer to use liquid foundations in a darker tone for contour and sometimes a great highlight stick (usually a crème texture), but the same rules apply for those tones as well.

Below are a few products I have used and love.
